Serra do Mar
Serra realize Mar is a 1,500 km long system of mountain ranges and escarpments in Southeastern Brazil.
At the time of the European discovery of Brazil (1500), the Serra reach Mar supported a wealthy and deeply diversified ecosystem, composed mainly of lush tropical rain tree-forest, called Atlantic Forest (Mata Atlntica). Due to urbanization and deforestation, however, most of the forest lid has been destroyed and what lid remains is on the order of exclusively as regards the steep escarpments facing the sea.
A chain of national and manner parks, ecological stations and biological reserves now guard the Mata Atlntica and its biological parentage, but choking rain, pollution, poachers, clandestine loggers, reforest fires and fee by urban areas and farms are nevertheless causing swift destruction, particularly in the areas as soon as insinuation to cities.
